 Why do we need a listener?  

Every one of us has some movement in our lives where we want to express our pain, thoughts, some bad experience, etc. but due to social pressure or family pressure, or hesitation, we failed to express ourselves. sometimes it is just that we don't want to hurt our close ones. the hardest thing in life is having words in your heart that you can’t utter. 

                The unspoken words are not good for mental health, they can lead to frustration, anxiety, and stress. Sometimes sharing your problems with some unknown person as an anonymous is a better option.

A Listener gives you the freedom to share anything in a confidential and nonjudgmental environment.

 How do I know if I need counseling? 

There are many reasons a person might contact Counseling and Wellness Services:

  • Anxiety/panic

  • Grief & loss

  • Relationships

  • Trauma/abuse

  • Depression, stress

  • Drug & alcohol concerns

  • Suicidal ideation/concerns/behavior

  • Housing insecurity

  • Basic needs insecurity

Things to watch for that might indicate a need for counseling include:

  • Feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness, depressed mood, poor self-esteem, or guilt.

  • Withdrawing from friends, family, and activities you used to enjoy.

  • Changes in eating or sleeping patterns. Are you sleeping all the time or having trouble falling asleep? Are you gaining weight or never hungry?

  • Anger, rage, or craving revenge. Are you overreacting to criticism?

  • Restless, irritable, agitated, or anxious movements or behaviors.

  • More crying than usual.

  • Neglect of personal care. Have you stopped caring about your appearance or stopped keeping up with your personal hygiene?

  • Thoughts about death or suicide.

We offer short term support by:

  • Helping you cope with distressing feelings

  • Supporting you through a difficult situation

  • Listening to you and helping you find solutions

  • Providing you with referrals for community resources (mental health & basic needs)
